Flotilla sailing holidays in Greece

The Ionian Sea
allows a quiet and leisurely sailing more than almost anywhere else in Greece. The Ionian flotillas between the islands and the mainland coast run through protected waters. Most are navigated by sight, the winds are less strong than in the Aegean Sea and there are no currents. An ideal spot for families. The southern islands of Lefkas, Ithaca and Cephalonia, and more than 20 smaller islands offer safe anchorages and coves, surrounded by pine forests and olive trees. The Ionian Islands are very different from those of the Aegean. This is mainly due to the heavy winter rains that keep the country all year round green and fresh.

Our flotillas
from Paleiros Marina are 7 or 14 days bookable. The number of participating yachts per flotilla is, according to season, from 3 to 10 boats. Our guests come from England, Germany and Holland. The trip planning was considered that there is time for exploring, swimming in beautiful bays, or just lazing around. The average daily distances vary between 15 - 20 nautical miles. Even the best planning, however, is depends on wind and weather and the flotilla skippers therefore has a free hand in their daily route planning.

Climate and sailing conditions
In spring and autumn temperatures in the Ionian Sea in accordance with those of a sunny summer day in Central Europe. In high summer July to August it is noticeably hotter. However, it also remains bearable by the sea winds. Water temperatures invite throughout the season for swimming. The prevailing wind direction is at NW, but changed like from island to island. The strength is usually about right for a pleasant sailing trip in the afternoon, but can occasionally reach 5-6 Bft. The Meltemi not reach the islands of the Ionian Sea. The sailing area
The Saronic Gulf is a protected sailing areas, ideal for flotilla sailing with family or friends. Starting point of this flotilla is in the Marina Alimos, Kalamaki Athens. The route leads to varied natural landscapes, archaeological highlights, such as the ancient theater of Epidavrus, the excavations at Mycenae with the grave of Agamemnon and the picturesque port town on the islands of Aegina, Poros, Hydra and Spetsä. But not only the famous sights are worth visiting, even in many small villages and ports, you can encounter the rich cultural past of Greece. The Greek presence can be experienced every day in one of the many cafes and tavernas, with good music, food and beverages.

Wind and Weather
The weather in this area in summer is stable and prepared for the sailors no particular difficulties. In the Saronic Gulf breezes days can be expected from changing directions. The closer you get to the southern Cape of Attica, Cape Sounion, the more there is the Meltemi (here North-North-East Wind). At the eastern Peloponnese and in the Argolic Gulf can blow the winds from different directions. In most cases you will find there light winds of the Meltemi. In Spetsä, in the passage of Dokos and in the Strait of Hydra, during the summer is the Meltemi to feel as East Wind.
